Screw type VS piston type, how to choose the compressor

Screw type VS piston type, how to choose the compressor.

Screw compressors occupy almost 22 kW or more, with a nominal pressure of 0.7 to 1.0 MPa for most of the market share of air systems. What is causing this trend is an increase in performance and reliability, as well as reduced maintenance and lower initial costs.

Despite this, double-acting piston compressors are still the most efficient compressors. The rotor shape of the screw reduces the high efficiency range used by the screw compressor, so better rotor profiles, improved machining and innovative design are key factors in screw compressors.

For example, a low-speed, direct-drive screw compressor can provide a displacement of 0.7 MPa, 0.13 to 0.14 m, which is 90 to 95% of a double-acting piston compressor. For most users, unless some energy consumption is particularly impressive, the more efficient double-acting piston compressors are often uneconomical due to their long payback period due to their higher initial investment (purchase price).

A well-maintained screw compressor can provide 10 years or more of operation. At the same time, its control system with fault diagnosis and processing capability can indicate the oil change gap based on the operating temperature, and also improve the reliability and life of the compressor.
